Through the STOP THE BLEED® course, you’ll gain the ability to recognize life-threatening bleeding and intervene effectively. The person next to a bleeding victim may be the one who’s most likely to save him or her. Take the course and become empowered to make a life-or-death difference when a bleeding emergency occurs. Course Outline

3 quick actions, you can be trained to save a life. The number 1 cause of preventable death after injury is bleeding. Minutes count! Someone who is severely bleeding can bleed to death in as little as 5 minutes. That’s why bleeding control—keeping the blood inside the body—is the purpose of STOP THE BLEED® training. That’s why we want to train you how to STOP THE BLEED®.

This is a blended learning option. Students complete an interactive course and sign-up for an in-person skills-only course to receive their certificate of completion.

Learner Outcomes

What does this course teach?

The person next to a bleeding victim may very well be the one who’s most likely to save him or her from bleeding to death. By learning how to STOP THE BLEED®, you’ll gain the ability to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly and effectively to control bleeding once you learn three quick techniques. Take the STOP THE BLEED® training course and become empowered to make a life-or-death difference when a bleeding emergency happens. You will learn:

  • What stops bleeding?
  • In a STOP THE BLEED® course, you’ll learn three quick techniques to help save a life before someone bleeds out:
  1. How to use your hands to apply pressure to a wound
  2. How to pack a wound to control bleeding
  3. How to correctly apply a tourniquet.

These three techniques will empower you to assist in an emergency and potentially save a life.

Date changes are only allowable upon appeal with the program director. There are no exceptions.

Prerequisites

Will students need previous knowledge or skills in the subject?

For this skills check-off session, students must have completed and passed the online learning portion prior to attending.

What do students need to bring to the class?

Students must bring the printed email with quiz results from the online portion to complete the skills check-off session. Practice manikins and accessories will be available for the student to use during the class. Students should wear loose, comfortable clothing. They will be practicing skills that require working on their hands and knees, bending, standing, and lifting
