Course Description

  • This experiential two-hour workshop introduces attendees to the remarkable world of play therapy.
  • Attendees will discover the benefits of play therapy and expressive arts techniques and learn ethical principles of practice that go beyond those appropriate for standard talk therapy.

Instructor: 

Dr. Page Thanasiu is the Department Chair & Associate Professor of Counselor Education at Stetson University. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (FL-LMHC), Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPT-S), and National Board Certified Counselor who specializes in Play Therapy and Expressive Arts with children, adolescents, and families.

NOTE: SECTIONS 003 and 004 are only open to currently enrolled counseling students.

As a result of attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the primary differences between adult and child/adolescent cognitive processing of traumatic experience
  2. Identify 3 benefits of utilizing play therapy and expressive arts techniques with children/adolescents
  3. Explain 4 principles that contribute to the ethical use of expressive arts in counseling
  4. Experience a play therapy intervention and processing exercise
